It seems my Comm classes this semester may be the best ones I have had yet. Comm 460W is the first hands-on reporting class that I’ve had at Penn State and I feel like I will gain valuable experience reporting on real-life stories. Our first assignment was to attend the borough council meetings of State College. Yeah, they may sound boring, but after attending the first one this past Tuesday night, I realized that many of the issues discussed there have a direct impact on us students. Tailgating regulations, tuition taxes, and alcohol violations topped the list of what the mayor, police chief, and downtown improvement chair had to discuss. Over the course of the semester, we have to report on three borough council meetings, Oweida lectures, and Foster speakers among others. I would recommend Tony Barbieri for this class—not only has he had extensive professional experience, he is kind and provides constructive criticism to better your work.
