I had the opportunity to meet with Career Services yesterday, and I really found the meeting quite helpful. One of the suggestions from my counselor was to target government jobs right now, because many corporate positions are filling on an immediate needs basis. I was told that you can actually go onto the government jobs website and fill out a profile with your skills and experiences. This gives you the chance to be contacted for future positions. I did some browsing on the government jobs site, which is usajobs.gov, and much to my delight there appeared to be a number of different communications opportunities. I plan to target this sight now, along with many other resources, as a part of my job search. My recommendation to anyone currently searching for PR jobs is to not forget about the government. From my initial research, it appears as though there are opportunities available and the compensation is fairly competitive. Hopefully with a little luck, and interview will come out of it.
