Nine Ways to Be a Dream PR Intern

By Emily Malnik

Everyone always wonders what it takes to be a good PR intern and maybe even be able to land a full-time position with the company.

Here are some tips that might help you:

First: Work later than everyone else. Always stick around until the very last-minute and you should always be willing to help.

Second: Don’t be an ageist. Obviously work is more entertaining if you’re hanging out with people around the same age as you. However, those are not the ones who are going to hire you.

Third: Find a role model in the office. If you are unsure how to act or are intimidated by your co-workers, follow your role model.

Fourth: Get to know the company. You can do this by grabbing lunch or coffee with someone in the office. You want to know as much about the company as possible.

Fifth: Learn new social media skills. It doesn’t matter if you are tweeting or facebooking, you need to be willing to adapt to change.

Sixth: Don’t just be an intern. Be THE intern. You want to stand out from the rest and this is especially important if your office has a lot of interns. Make sure you get noticed.

Seventh: Dress appropriately. Don’t dress like you are going out on a Saturday night with your friends. Dress classy!

Eighth: Interact. It is very important that you don’t isolate yourself and sit at your desk all day. Talk to your co-workers and be friendly.

Ninth: Say goodbye. Don’t stare at the clock all day and run out the door as soon as it is time for you to leave. Stop by you supervisor’s desk and make sure there is nothing else they need you to do for the day.
