Workshops are monthly events that are an important opportunity for PRSSA members to develop skills and further their education about various public relations topics.

Being a member of PRSSA means you’re not only exposed to professionals in the PR field and hands-on experience through our committees, but you are also taught important lessons and as they pertain to your developing PR career.

We want PRSSA members to be able to apply what they learn in classes and from mentors. Penn State does a great job of preparing students for the workplace, regardless of major, however, in the public relations industry it is vital for students to get lots of practice.

The ability to deliver a strong 30-second pitch is arguably as important as presenting a strong resume nowadays. We know it’s important for you to get as much as can out of this society, and that’s why we run these workshops, and why we asked attendees at the first meeting to complete a survey. (If you weren’t at the meeting but still want to complete it, print this out and turn it into our office, 207 HUB.)

Workshops we have lined up this semester include: a social media seminar (learn about the benefits of LinkedIn and what not to publicly post to Twitter), how to effectively network with other PR professionals, and the best way to build a portfolio.

Workshop announcement: We are very excited to announce that Brittany Thomas and George Stark from Cabot Oil & Gas will be visiting on October 2 to speak about how to prepare for interviews and what a company looks for in interns, so be sure to come with some questions!

These workshops have all been designed with our members in mind. We want to see you succeed, and be comfortable and confident as you go on to search for (and land) internships and jobs.
