Can you believe how quickly September came and went? This semester is flying by, but PRSSA is just getting started. We’re kicking off the month of October with two days in a row of exciting guest speakers.
Our next general meeting is on Tuesday, October 1, and Rob Boulware will be joining us as our first guest speaker. With over 25 years of experience he will be sharing the dos and don’ts of having a successful PR career. Rob has worked in many fields including sports media relations, community relations in the oil and gas industry and Federal Express communications. He is now back in the oil and gas industry with Seneca Resources.
Rob is a 1986 Penn State Alumni who graduated with a degree in journalism and has been noted as saying that Penn Staters love to hire other Penn Staters, so keep those connections alive. During his last visit to Penn State PRSSA, he provided insightful information on five specific topics in which young professionals seem to trap themselves. We are happy to have him back so he can again provide us with such invaluable information. Join us on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in 073 Willard!
Additionally, on Wednesday, October 2 we are pleased to welcome two representatives from the external affairs department of Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation. George Stark and Penn State alum, Brittany Thomas, be speaking to us about important topics like preparing for interviews and how to land a great internship or full-time job. Cabot Oil & Gas offers many internships throughout the year, and our speakers will present the best (and worst) things you can do in an interview with them, or anywhere else.
George and Brittany will have an interactive presentation and want you to come prepared with questions about internships and interviews. This session will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in 265 Willard!
Even your goals aren’t with the oil and gas industry, there is still a lot you can learn from these PR pros. We hope to see you at one (or both!) of these meetings. Guest speakers are one of the best opportunities you can have as a member of PRSSA.
