Kim and Kanye Assist Anna Wintour in Bringing Profits to Vogue

When thinking of Vogue Magazine, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West usually aren’t the two people that come to mind. Yet, for the first time ever the couple made their appearance on the cover of the most recent edition of Vogue.

This April, “the world’s moVogue.comst talked about couple”, as Vogue stated it, was featured on the cover of the magazine. There has been speculation for the past couple months that West had been trying to convince Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, to have Kim Kardashian on the cover. His efforts seem to have worked, and the edition has been one of most talked about in Vogue’s history.

Various celebrities were quick to respond to the cover with some harsh words. Sarah Michelle Gellar tweeted, “Well…I guess I’m cancelling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???”. The tweet did cause a stir and Kardashian’s best friend, Jonathan Cheban, got involved responding to the tweet saying, “Do u matter?”. Multiple other people have argued that Vogue has lost its credibility as the leading fashion magazine because of this publicity move.

Wintour responded to her critics by stating, “My opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancé on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort,” she said. “The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true. Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it”.

Regardless of the negative backlash, Kardashian stood by her excitement for the cover stating that it was a “dream come true”. West has stood by his fiancé as well and the cover has brought the couple an obscene amount of fame–even more so than what they had prior to the cover. Although a majority of the attention has been negative, it is attention none the less. The April issue is one of the highest selling copies and ultimately did work in advantage to both the couple as well as Wintour.
