Global Entrepreneurship Week is an international celebration of individuals brave and creative enough to start their own businesses. This year, GEW will take place next week, November 16 through November 21.
Over 150 countries and 24,000 partners participate in this annual event. This will be Penn State’s third year participating in GEW. GEW is a great opportunity for Penn State students to connect and learn from a very diverse and bright group of professionals. GEW is also geared to be an interactive and customizable experience.
Beginning on November 9, students are invited to participate in the GEW “selfie challenge”. Participants are asked to find an entrepreneurship resource (a list can be found on the GEW at Penn State website), learn about their opportunities, and send a “selfie” of your visit. The winner of the challenge will receive a pizza party with President Barron.
Asif Kahn, founder of the Location Based Marketing Association, delivered a keynote speech to kick off the promotional week on Tuesday. The official GEW events will begin this Sunday, starting with the 1000 Pitches competition.
GEW is beneficial to students of all majors and interests. More than half of the academic colleges at University Park will be represented and sponsoring events during the week. There will be multiple events with a communications focus throughout the week. The first will be on Monday, November 17, at 6 p.m. in 113 Carnegie Auditorium.
“How to Start a Creative Agency: Rachelle Yankowich” will be sponsored by the College of Communications and the Penn State Ad Club. The College of Communications will also be holding “Take a Risk: Study Abroad” at 7:30 p.m.m on Tuesday, November 18 in 113 Carnegie Auditorium.
Wednesday, November 19 holds multiple communications concentrated lectures. “Legal Issues for Journalists” will take place at 11:15 am in the HUB Auditorium. “Women Entrepreneurs in Film: An Evening with Distributer Nancy Gerstman of Zeitgeist Films and Filmmaker Pearl Gluck” will be held at 5:30 pm at the State Theatre downtown.
A full list of the GEW schedule can be found on the GEW at Penn State website. We encourage students to attend multiple events and open their horizons to what the world of entrepreneurship has to offer. Be inspired by Global Entrepreneurship Week, Penn State.
