A new school year brings new opportunities to branch out and get involved on campus. Public relations students should always be looking for new ways to enhance their skills and with an array of clubs at Penn State there’s no shortage of opportunities. Whether it’s a sorority or club sport public relations is everywhere.

Every club is looking for ways to promote themselves on campus. As a new member you can stand out by offering to take charge of the club’s social media or reach out to editors at The Daily Collegian or Onward State and pitch to them why your club would make a great feature story. These are two great ways to increase your involvement and build your resume. In the future employers will be more impressed by what you actually contributed to your club and you will be sure to stand out among your peers.

Each semester also brings the chance for a new internship experience. There are plenty of opportunities within State College for internships, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for head online and check out virtual internship opportunities. If there’s an organization or business in State College that you’d really love to intern for, but they don’t have any listed openings don’t be afraid to reach out to them with your resume and portfolio. You never know if they’re looking for someone with your skills and by reaching out to them you can create your own unique internship experience.

The key to a successful semester is to make it what you want. By branching out and finding those new opportunities to use your skills you will have a well-rounded college experience that will be sure to impress future employers and make this year your best yet!
