Penn State’s College of Communications, JobExpo created an inviting environment for students to network with potential employers on Friday, Mar. 24. The tables set up in HUB-Robeson’s Alumni Hall had recruiters interested in students seeking summer internships or full-time positions. Employers such as Ketchum, Yelp, Scripps Network and Target were in attendance. Since this event was exclusive for College of Communications students there were smaller lines to speak with recruiters, and more face-to-face interaction than typical job fairs.
This moderately exclusive and intimate setting made it easier for students to share their resume, writing samples and LinkedIn profiles with recruiters. Some local and national companies attended, along with non-profit organizations. Students found themselves less nervous because of the smaller setting.
Internship opportunities were for all majors across the college of communications. TV networks, agencies and Fortune 500 corporations attended the event.
Public Relations students greatly benefit from the connections made at Penn State’s JobExpo. Some leaders in the industry were represented in Alumni Hall, and were eager to speak with students.
Whether students were looking for a full-time position or just attending for practice, valuable potential connections were made at Penn State’s JobExpo. The next upcoming College of Communications Career Fair, Success in the City, will take place Apr. 7 in the Time Warner Building in New York City.
