When I was contemplating over whether to choose Advertising or Public Relations, the phrase: “Everyone needs PR” really stuck out to me. My dad was the first person to say it to me when I was talking with both my parents about what career path I was thinking about. There are so many different types of Public Relations; corporate, entertainment, sports, fashion, public affairs, and more.
The reason why there are so many different types of PR, is because “everyone needs PR.” Every company needs public relations. These people are responsible for information being spread from that company to the public. PR can go into so many different directions, which is why it’s such a good field to get into, and why I chose it as my major.
I’m only a sophomore, and while I hope to get more real-world experience with PR through future internships, I’m only still learning about it now. My classes so far have given me some good insight to what it’s all about, and I can’t wait to keep learning more about it.
If you want to be in Public Relations you don’t have to go into the entertainment industry, you don’t have to be interested in sports, or you don’t have to want to be involved in the public affairs industry, because PR is involved in such a variety of places. You can do PR for whatever you’re passionate about, because, “Everyone needs PR.”
